Preparing your itti’s for first use!

Preparing your itti’s for first use!

I bet you are busting out of your skin to try your itti nappy out…but…don’t! Well not yet anyway… We recommended you prewash your new nappies at least once prior to use, to remove any traces of manufacturing residues. Some customers like to soak their new nappies in plain cold water overnight before the first wash, as this seems to speed up increasing the absorbency.

There is no need to wash multiple times!!

Simply change more frequently for the first few wears as nappies will gain maximum absorbency after 8-10 washes. Usually this is not a problem if you have a newborn as you are changing every couple of hours anyway. If you are using them on an older baby we suggest it may be easier to use them during the day so you can change them frequently. Keep in mind that bamboo takes a number of washes to reach peak absorbency so just change frequently until they have been washed about eight times.

We suggest only washing once – because washing clean nappies is a bit of a waste of energy.

You can however, wash your nappies about eight times before use, if you want maximum absorbency straight away. Follow these three steps to ensure your nappies are at their most effective! And they will love you back with years and years of use!

Single pre wash instructions

Step 1

For the very first wash, you can use a teaspoon of regular eco powder to get rid of any manufacturer’s residue, and set your washing machine to a prewash cycle for Front Loaders and a short rinse cycle for Top Loaders, in either cold or warm water (30-40°C).

Step 2

No need to dry between pre washes. Leave your itti nappies in the washing machine and just set your washing machine to a regular wash cycle for Front Loaders and a long cycle for Top Loaders in cold or warm water (30-40°C). There is no need to add washing detergent for this step.

Step 3

After you have prewashed/rinsed your nappies, and then completed the regular wash/long cycle (with no detergent) you will need to dry them. itti nappies are fine to use in tumble dryers but only on LOW temperature.  The hot cycle is not recommended as it will wear out your nappies quicker. Line drying is best for our environment and your nappies, and always remember to hang long wise to prevent the elastic from stretching. Your cloth nappies’ absorbency will increase with each wash until they’ve had around 8 washes, at which time they will have reached maximum absorbency.
